alcohol problemsA recent study put alcohol as the most damaging drug ahead of heroine and crack cocaine stating that far more lives are ruined because of alcohol than more infamous illegal substances.

We live in a world were drinking alcohol every week is considered normal for most of us, it is our favourite form of escapism, it enables us to socialise and relax with friends, it allows us to come out of our shells be less inhibited and more fun. Or so we convince ourselves.

Sadly this drink to escapism can become our best friend when times are hard. Maybe we lose a loved one, maybe we lose our job, maybe we lose our partner and are children. Loneliness can become less lonely with a drink by our side often people turn to the bottle to forget about the memories to prevent us from facing our fears, facing reality head on.

Some people have drink problems and some people are alcoholics, some people have a drink habit in that they have a couple of drinks each night and then drink heavily at the weekend. Many think this is normal but in fact it can slowly ruin your life, you have less time for your family, your friends, your work deteriorates, someone else gets the promotion, your debt problems worsen. Before you know it you’re alone and lost.

If you could get your life back, if you step by step move towards a new life where you replaced evenings of drinking alcohol with evenings of learning new things, getting fit and healthy, making new friends, making more money, growing as a person instead of wilting away wouldn’t you take that opportunity with both hands?
